Frequently Asked Interview Questions (With Answers & Solution Guidelines)
Quantum Computing & Simulation
- Question:“How does state vector simulation in QuTiP or Qiskit differ from density matrix formulation when modeling quantum optical systems?”
- Answer & Solution Context: State vector simulation assumes pure state evolution governed by the Schrödinger equation ($\vert{}\psi\rangle$), suitable for closed systems. Density matrix formulation ($\rho$) accounts for mixed states, environmental decoherence, and open quantum systems through the Lindblad master equation, which is essential for realistic quantum optics and noise modeling.
Quantum Optics Experimental Setup
- Question:“What alignment and safety precautions are essential when setting up a single-photon interferometry experiment on an optical table?”
- Answer & Solution Context: Ensure proper laser safety protocols (appropriate optical density eyewear, beam dumps). Use optical breadboards with isolation mounts, precisely align beam splitters and spatial filters, minimize ambient light exposure for single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs), and use polarization-maintaining fibers to avoid phase jitter.
