Frequently Asked Interview Questions (With Answers & Solution Guidelines)
MBOM vs. EBOM Differentiation
- Question:“What is the core difference between an Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM) and a Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM), and how do you ensure accuracy during transition?”
- Answer & Solution Context: An EBOM (designed by R&D) reflects how the product is designed, whereas an MBOM reflects how the product is assembled on the line, including manufacturing consumables, packaging, and assembly sequence routing. Accuracy is maintained by conducting cross-functional review meetings, verifying engineering change orders (EO/EPI), and validating RPCS codes against Work Instruction Sheets before line sign-off.
Managing Engineering Changes (EO / EPI)
- Question:“How do you handle an urgent Engineering Order (EO) release while minimizing line stoppage or scrap in an active automotive assembly line?”
- Answer & Solution Context: Establish an effective breakpoint strategy based on stock levels and supplier lead times. Run a cross-functional review with production, quality, and supply chain to track obsolete inventory, create necessary RPCS codes for WIS updates, and execute the switchover seamlessly at the specified VIN/vehicle sequence number.
