Job Description

The Risk Reporting & Analytics Apprentice role is a structured 12-month program designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and corporate application. You will sit within the Risk Reporting & Analytics team, which is tasked with strengthening Amex’s control environment. Your primary mission is to support the development of reporting solutions that allow senior leaders to make “risk-based decisions.” This means you will spend your day looking at the data behind the transactions and operational processes to spot potential gaps, compliance issues, or risk trends before they become problems.

Requirements

  • Reporting & Solutions: Support the creation and enhancement of MIS reporting tools. You will help build the “eyes” of the organization, allowing stakeholders to see risk and compliance metrics in real-time.
  • Trend Analysis: Assist in performing deep-dive data analysis to identify patterns, anomalies, and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs).
  • Dashboarding: Help prepare reports, automated dashboards, and high-stakes presentations for leadership reviews. Your work will directly influence how executives view operational gaps.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Support the team in gathering data to understand “the why” behind a risk trend. You will assist in identifying the key drivers that lead to process failures.
  • Automation & AI: Contribute to process improvement by leveraging AI tools and advanced automation capabilities to make reporting workflows faster and more accurate.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with teams across the globe (New York, London, Singapore) to support ongoing reporting initiatives.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear documentation of the methodologies and frameworks used in your reporting to ensure transparency and auditability.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Technical Stack: Basic knowledge of SQL (for data extraction), Python (for automation), or Power BI/Tableau (for visualization).
  • Domain Knowledge: An understanding of financial services, risk management, or compliance frameworks.
  • Attention to Detail: The ability to work with large, complex datasets without losing accuracy.

Role Summary

As an Apprentice, you are essentially a “Risk Insights Architect-in-Training.” In the payment industry, risk isn’t just about fraud; it’s about operational reliability and compliance with global regulations. You will be responsible for helping the team automate the “MIS” (Management Information Systems) reports that the company uses to monitor its health. You will work with both structured data (like transaction logs) and unstructured data (like process notes) to build dashboards and presentations that tell a story of where the company stands regarding its risk indicators.

Company Culture & Insights

The Amex culture is built on “Powerful Backing.” This applies to customers, but also to colleagues. The Gurugram office follows a Hybrid Work Model, which offers the perfect balance of onsite collaboration (at a world-class facility) and the flexibility to work from home. Amex values “Leadership Behaviors”—they expect you to be an owner of your work, regardless of your title. The “Healthy Minds” program and on-site wellness centers demonstrate a genuine commitment to mental and physical health.
