  • 1. Engineering Package Design & System Validation
  • Specification Analysis: Review and interpret rigorous customer engineering specifications, translating regional technical requirements into actionable plant build layouts.
  • Auxiliary Engineering: Own the end-to-end mechanical design, equipment selection, and procurement tracking for critical systems, including API 614 Lube Oil Consoles (pumps, filters, accumulators, rundown tanks, and oil mist eliminators) and API 692 Dry Gas Seal Systems.
  • Asset Integration: Manage structural package layouts by evaluating electric motors, switchgears, variable speed drives (VSDs), transformers, speed-increasing gearboxes (including Vorecon units), process gas coolers, surface condensers, and condensate pumps.
  • 2. Procurement Governance & Supplier Interfacing
  • Requisition Writing: Author detailed, highly accurate purchase requisitions for material procurement, ensuring all necessary datasheets and compliance metrics are attached.
  • Drawing Review: Audit sub-supplier documentation, including structural calculations, general arrangement layout drawings, and fluid schematic diagrams, to verify alignment with contract requirements.
  • Model Assessment: Attend turbomachinery package 3D model reviews, providing technical expertise to optimize piping routes, maintenance accessibility, and component orientation.
  • 3. Cross-Functional Project Management
  • Meeting Execution: Actively participate in project transfer gates (TM1/TM2) to transfer data from proposals to execution, and support key project meetings: Kick-Off Meetings (KOM), HAZOP Studies, Customer Coordination Meetings (CCM), and Pre-Inspection Meetings (PIM).
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Serve as a core technical point of contact, coordinating cross-functional communications between Elliott’s Project Managers, internal COEs (Controls, Product, Purchasing), and client technical teams.
  • Mentorship: Direct the work efforts of designers, drafting staff, and document control clerks, while providing technical mentorship to junior mechanical engineers (Engineers I, II, and III).

Role Summary

At Elliott Group, a turbomachinery package is more than just a bare compressor or turbine casing. The core machine requires an extensive network of fluid systems, electrical interfaces, and thermodynamic components to operate reliably under extreme pressures.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you are the technical architect of this complete system package. You will translate complex customer datasheets into precise purchase requisitions for full external skids, structural items, and specialized piping configurations. You will ensure that every auxiliary unit—from the high-volume API 614 Lube Oil Console to the API 692 Dry Gas Seal System—integrates cleanly with the main machine line.

Company Culture & Insights

Operating as a package design engineer under a flexible remote model in India provides a unique career structure. Unlike typical service-based engineering consulting centers that focus solely on drafting modifications, Elliott Group integrates its remote Indian engineers directly into core global product lifecycles. You assume real ownership of complete mechanical systems, engage directly with international clients, and collaborate with globally distributed centers of excellence.

Why We Recommend This Job

  • Broad Specialized Focus: This role expands your profile beyond a single mechanical component. You will master electrical drives, complex fluid systems, instrumentation controls, and pressure vessel thermodynamics simultaneously.
  • Prestige of API Mastery: Developing verifiable expertise in the complete suite of API standards (610, 614, 617, 692) serves as an excellent differentiator for a career in global energy infrastructure.
  • Flexible Experience Bracket: The wide experience range (2 to 18 years) indicates that Elliott is building a long-term talent pipeline. This structure offers a clear runway for career development, whether you are an early-career engineer or a seasoned specialist.

Career Growth Potential

  • Elliott Group features a structured, performance-driven technical and management progression path:
  • Mechanical Engineer I/II ➔ Package Design Specialist (III/IV) ➔ Lead Project Engineer ➔ Chief Technical Director / Principal Systems Architect
  • During your first 12 to 18 months, your footprint focuses on mastering Elliott’s internal engineering guidelines, executing standard purchase requisitions, and stabilizing individual supplier delivery pipelines. As you demonstrate technical autonomy, your scope scales to leading multi-million dollar global contracts, steering HAZOP design architectures for international clients, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across Elliott’s global engineering framework.

Frequently Asked Interview Questions

  1. API 614 System Architecture: “When sizing a dual-filter arrangement for an API 614 lube oil console, how do you determine the maximum permissible differential pressure ($\Delta P$) across the filter elements before triggering an automated changeover? What type of transfer valve configuration do you select to ensure uninterrupted fluid flow?”
  2. API 692 Dry Gas Seals: “Walk me through the primary functional components of an API 692 dry gas seal conditioning system. How do you design the seal gas booster loop to prevent process gas migration into the atmosphere during a slow turning or standstill phase?”
  3. Thermodynamic Rejuvenation: “Imagine a surface condenser attached to an API 612 steam turbine package is experiencing an unexpected reduction in vacuum pressure during field testing. What mechanical validation steps do you execute to isolate whether the failure stems from non-condensable gas accumulation or a structural condensate pump bottleneck?”
  4. Data Variance Optimization: “How do you leverage 3D model reviews to identify and mitigate potential thermal expansion stresses inside auxiliary interconnecting piping lines before finalizing manufacturing prints?”

Behavioral & Culture Questions

  1. Navigating Cross-Cultural Communication: “This role requires constant collaboration with clients, contractors, and internal teams across different time zones and cultural backgrounds. Can you share an example of a time you resolved a major technical misunderstanding by adapting your communication style?”
  2. Managing Sub-Supplier Friction: “Describe a situation where a critical auxiliary component vendor delivered design documentation that fell short of the client’s strict engineering specifications. How did you handle the review loop to enforce quality compliance without impacting the project schedule?”
  3. Adhering to Professional Ethics: “Elliott Group places a heavy emphasis on an environment of professional and ethical conduct. Tell me about a time in your past career where you had to balance hitting a tight project timeline or budget limit with strict adherence to design testing procedures.”
