Job Description
Who You’ll Work With
As part of the Global Technology organization, you will focus on Nike’s internal product tools. Reporting to the Engineering Director, your day-to-day will involve close collaboration with a dedicated team of engineers, Technical Product Managers, and Principal Engineers. You will work on software projects that directly impact Nike’s business goals while engaging with broader tech functions across the company.
Who We Are Looking For
We need a Data Engineer who loves solving complex software problems. You will support our Consumer Product and Innovation (CP&I) community by helping deliver top-tier tools. The ideal candidate is a team player who thrives in a high-speed development setting and has solid experience with native cloud software engineering.
What You’ll Work On
You will help build modular, “API-first” capabilities that power modern web applications used by our CP&I teams. We expect you to be a key player in coordinating with other teams and providing mentorship to junior developers.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: 1–2+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering or software development.
- Technical Core: Strong proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and a working knowledge of Python for automation and scripting.
- Big Data: Familiarity with Spark or similar distributed processing frameworks and an understanding of parallel computing.
- Cloud: Experience with at least one major platform (AWS, Azure, Databricks, or Snowflake).
- Pipelines: A solid grasp of ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and real-time data streaming concepts.
- DevOps: Knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment workflows.
- Architecture: Understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and common design patterns.
- Bonus: Awareness of data visualization and frontend frameworks like React, Vue.js, or Angular.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Coding: Write clean, efficient code for products and core systems.
- Code Reviews: Critique peer code to ensure it meets Google’s high standards for testability, efficiency, and style.
- Documentation: Create and update technical guides to help other engineers navigate the system.
- Troubleshooting: Triage, debug, and resolve complex issues affecting hardware, network, or service quality.
How to Apply?
Role Summary
The Data Engineer I at Nike’s India Technology Center (ITC) is a foundational yet high-impact role. You aren’t just moving data; you are building the “API-First” backbone that helps Nike decide which products to innovate next. This role is unique because it blends traditional Data Engineering (ETL/Spark) with modern Software Engineering (Microservices/APIs), making it perfect for someone who wants to be more than just a “SQL writer.”
Company Culture & Insights
Nike ITC in Bangalore is known for its “electric” atmosphere. Unlike traditional IT hubs, Nike leans heavily into its sports heritage. The office at Embassy GolfLinks is high-energy, and the culture encourages a “sneaker-head” mentality—meaning a passion for the brand is just as important as your Python skills. They value “learning agility,” so being able to pick up a new framework (like moving from AWS to Databricks) quickly is highly rewarded.
Why We Recommend This Job
- The “Cool” Factor: Working for one of the most recognizable brands on earth.
- Modern Tech Stack: You aren’t stuck with legacy on-premise systems; this is a “Native Cloud” environment focusing on Snowflake, Databricks, and Spark.
- Mentorship: The structure (reporting to an Engineering Director and working with Principal Engineers) ensures you won’t be left to sink or swim; there is a clear path for technical guidance.
Career Growth Potential
Nike’s Global Tech organization is massive. Starting as a Data Engineer I, the natural progression is to Senior Data Engineer and then Staff Engineer or Data Architect. Because Nike emphasizes internal mobility, you could also transition into AI/Machine Learning Engineering or Product Management within the CP&I (Consumer Product & Innovation) vertical.
Skills You’ll Gain
- Enterprise-Scale Spark: Handling data at the scale of a global retail giant.
- API-First Design: Learning how to serve data to modern SPAs (Single Page Applications) rather than just dumping it into a warehouse.
- Global Collaboration: Navigating a complex corporate environment that spans multiple continents.
Salary & Benefits Info
- Estimated Salary: For 1–3 years of experience at Nike ITC Bangalore, market data suggests a Total Compensation (TC) of ₹18,00,000 – ₹26,00,000 per year, often including a base, performance bonus, and potentially Employee Stock Purchase Plans.
- Benefits: * Significant Employee Discounts on Nike gear (often 30–50% off).
- Access to world-class office facilities at WeWork Embassy GolfLinks.
- Comprehensive wellness and fitness allowances (staying true to the “Athlete” mission).
