Job Description
ADI is seeking a Digital Design Engineer to join their team at the Aveda Meta facility in Bangalore, India. This is an early-to-mid-career role (1st Shift/Days) focused on the design and development of digital integrated circuits (ICs). You will take ownership of small projects and modules, executing the complete digital design workflow from initial specification to implementation. This role requires up to 10% travel and offers a highly collaborative environment focused on continuous learning and mentorship.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Experience: 2 to 4 years of relevant professional experience in digital design engineering.
- Hardware Description Languages: Practical experience implementing and verifying RTL designs using Verilog or SystemVerilog.
- Digital Circuit Design: Proficient understanding of digital circuits with the ability to independently design basic modules.
- Analysis & Closure: Ability to perform basic Static Timing Analysis (STA) to achieve timing closure.
- Protocols: Working knowledge of common digital interfaces, specifically I2C, SPI, and UART.
- Tooling & Automation: Competent use of industry-standard Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and applied scripting skills for workflow enhancement.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Module Ownership: Perform independent RTL design and verification of assigned digital modules.
- End-to-End Workflow: Execute the complete digital design flow, transforming high-level specifications into physical implementations.
- Synthesis & Timing: Conduct logic synthesis and detailed timing analysis for your specific circuit blocks to ensure performance targets are met.
- Interface Implementation: Design, implement, and verify industry-standard digital communication interfaces (I2C, SPI, etc.).
- Collaboration: Work seamlessly with cross-functional teams (verification, physical design, analog design) to ensure all overarching design requirements are met.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive and clear documentation of design specifications and test results.
How to Apply?
Role Summary
The Digital Design Engineer is a “Silicon Architect.” You are responsible for the logic that processes information at the edge. Because ADI is famous for mixed-signal ICs (where analog sensors meet digital processors), your digital designs must interface perfectly with complex analog components. You will spend your days writing RTL, running simulations, and using EDA tools to ensure the silicon behaves exactly as intended before it goes to the foundry.
Company Culture & Insights
Analog Devices boasts a highly engineering-centric culture. The phrase “stay Ahead of What’s Possible” dictates their R&D approach; they heavily invest in continuous learning and expert mentorship. The Bangalore Aveda Meta office is a major R&D hub, characterized by a highly collaborative environment where work-life balance and professional growth are actively supported.
Why We Recommend This Job
- The ADI Brand: Having Analog Devices on your resume is a massive credibility booster in the VLSI/Semiconductor industry.
- End-to-End Exposure: Unlike some mega-corporations where you might only do synthesis or only write RTL, this role explicitly allows you to “execute complete digital design flow,” making you a highly versatile engineer.
- High-Demand Protocols: Mastering I2C, SPI, and UART at the silicon level guarantees your relevance, as these are the backbone interfaces for IoT and the “Intelligent Edge.”
Career Growth Potential
- Senior Digital Design Engineer: Taking ownership of major subsystems or entire digital blocks within a mixed-signal chip.
- Digital/SoC Architect: Moving from writing RTL to defining the microarchitecture and bus protocols for next-generation chips.
- Engineering Manager: Transitioning to technical leadership, overseeing teams of RTL designers and verification engineers.
Skills You’ll Gain
| Skill Category | Specific Competencies |
| Languages | Verilog, SystemVerilog, Scripting (Python/Tcl/Perl). |
| Analysis | Static Timing Analysis (STA), Logic Synthesis. |
| Protocols | I2C, SPI, UART, APB/AHB basics. |
| Tools | Industry EDA Tools (e.g., Synopsys Design Compiler, Cadence Genus, Mentor Graphics). |
Salary & Benefits Info
- Estimated Salary Range: For an engineer with 2–4 years of experience in VLSI/Digital Design at a Tier-1 semiconductor company like ADI, the Total Compensation (TC) in Bangalore typically ranges from ₹16,00,000 to ₹26,00,000 per annum (including base, performance bonuses, and potential stock options).
- Benefits: Competitive compensation, comprehensive medical/health coverage, dedicated mentorship programs, and 10% travel opportunities.
Frequently Asked Interview Questions
- RTL/Verilog Basics: “Explain the difference between blocking (
=) and non-blocking (<=) assignments in Verilog. What happens if you mix them in a sequential block?”
Static Timing Analysis (STA): “Can you write out the standard setup time equation? How do you fix a setup violation versus a hold violation in a digital circuit?”
For your reference, the setup equation is:
$$T_{clk} \geq T_{cq} + T_{comb} + T_{setup}$$
Digital Protocols: “Compare I2C and SPI. If you need to interface with a high-speed ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter), which protocol would you choose and why?”
State Machines: “Design a Mealy finite state machine (FSM) that detects the sequence ‘1011’. Draw the state diagram and write the corresponding Verilog code.”
Behavioral & Culture Questions
- Ownership: “The job description mentions taking ownership of modules. Tell me about a time you took complete ownership of a technical task from specification to delivery.”
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: “At ADI, digital engineers work closely with analog and verification teams. How do you handle a situation where a verification engineer claims your RTL has a bug, but you believe the testbench is flawed?”
- Documentation: “Engineers often overlook documentation. How do you ensure your design specifications and test results are comprehensive and clear for the next person who inherits your code?”
