Frequently Asked Interview & Skill Test Questions

VLAN Configuration & Trunking (Project Associate / Assistant)

  • Question:“How do you configure a VLAN trunk link between two switches to allow multiple VLANs, and what causes a native VLAN mismatch error?”
  • Answer & Solution Context: Explain setting switchport mode trunk and defining switchport trunk allowed vlan. A native VLAN mismatch occurs when untagged traffic configurations differ on opposing ends of the trunk link, leading to dropped frames or spanning-tree loops.

IP Address Troubleshooting & DHCP Leases

  • Question:“If a client computer connected to an enterprise Wi-Fi network receives an IP address in the 169.254.x.x range, what is the root cause and how do you resolve it?”
  • Answer & Solution Context: An APIPA address indicates the client failed to reach the DHCP server. Troubleshooting steps include checking physical/wireless connectivity, verifying DHCP relay agent (IP helper-address) settings on the gateway router, and ensuring the DHCP IP pool is not exhausted.
