Frequently Asked Interview Questions (With Answers & Solution Guidelines)

Section 8 & Grant Accounting

  • Question:“How does accounting for a Section 8 non-profit/incubator differ from a commercial private limited company regarding government grants?”
  • Answer & Solution Context: Explain that Section 8 companies focus on income-over-expenditure rather than profit/loss. Government grants are recognized under AS-12 (Accounting for Government Grants). Capital grants are credited to Deferred Income/Capital Reserve and depreciated over the asset’s life, while revenue/project grants are recognized in the Income & Expenditure statement systematically over the periods necessary to match them with related project costs.

Statutory TDS & GST Compliance

  • Question:“Under what section is TDS deducted for professional/technical fees paid to incubatees or consultants, and what is the timeline for depositing TDS?”
  • Answer & Solution Context: TDS on professional/technical services is deducted under Section 194J (at 10% or 2% for specified technical services) if the payment exceeds ₹30,000 in a financial year. Tax deducted during any month must be deposited to the credit of the Central Government on or before the 7th of the following month (except for March, which is April 30th).
