Job Description

As a Tester I – Embedded Testing, you will be responsible for executing test scenarios with minimal supervision in a high-precision hardware environment. Your primary focus will be on the systematic validation of embedded systems, ensuring that software and hardware interact seamlessly according to technical specifications.

Requirements

  • Ability to review requirements to identify and resolve ambiguities.
  • Expertise in designing efficient test cases and automation scripts.
  • Proficiency in hardware setup and manual test execution.
  • Specialized Tools: Experience using Lauterbach or Multimeters for hardware-level debugging.
  • Knowledge Examples:
  • Deep understanding of Unit, Integration, and System Testing.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban).
  • Solid foundation in Embedded C and Python scripting.
  • Additional Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in OEM workshops, specifically in vehicle diagnostics and repair.
  • Understanding of vehicle communication protocols: CAN and UDS.
  • Knowledge of OTX authoring using tools like Grade-X or Xentry.
  • Background in developing diagnostic content for automotive systems..

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Test Construction & Execution: Develop and run systematic test cases for embedded systems based on specific project requirements.
  • Hardware Setup: Physically set up and configure embedded hardware, including flashing the necessary software (SW) for testing cycles.
  • Defect Management: Identify, log, and track software and hardware defects. Retest using Best Known Methods (BKM) to ensure resolutions are effective.
  • Debugging: Use specialized tools to debug embedded system functions and software performance.
  • Documentation: Maintain rigorous records of test results, productivity data, and training documents to foster team learning.

Role Summary

The Tester I – Embedded Testing is a specialized “Hardware-Software Bridge” role. Unlike standard software testing (QA), this role requires you to get your hands dirty with physical components. You aren’t just looking for bugs in code; you are checking if the code correctly triggers hardware reactions—like a vehicle’s diagnostic system identifying a faulty sensor. With 2 openings in Bangalore and Coimbatore, this is a prime entry-level spot for engineers interested in Automotive Electronics and VLSI-adjacent testing.

Company Culture & Insights

This role appears to be within a Tier-1 automotive supplier or a specialized engineering services firm. The culture is likely highly disciplined with a focus on “Adherence to project quality processes.” Because it involves OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards, expect a work environment where “Best Known Methods” (BKM) are the law. The mention of Lauterbach suggests high-end debugging for complex microcontrollers (like those found in ECUs).

Why We Recommend This Job

  • Specialized Tool Mastery: Learning to use Lauterbach debuggers is a high-value skill that pays significantly more than standard web-based testing tools.
  • Automotive Growth: As the world moves toward Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs), expertise in CAN and UDS protocols is one of the most stable career bets for 2026.
  • Hybrid Experience: You gain a unique mix of coding (Python/C) and electrical engineering skills, making you a versatile asset for tech giants like Tesla, Mercedes, or Bosch.

Career Growth Potential

From a Tester I, you can progress into a Lead Embedded Developer, System Architect, or a Test Manager. If you lean into the diagnostic side, you can become a Vehicle Diagnostics Specialist, a role that is becoming critical as cars transition to cloud-based monitoring and over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Skills You’ll Gain

  • Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) Testing: Understanding how to simulate real-world conditions for hardware.
  • Diagnostic Protocols: Mastering how vehicles “talk” internally via CAN and UDS.
  • Automated Scripting: Using Python to automate repetitive hardware tests, a skill that is 5x more efficient than manual testing.

Salary & Benefits Info

  • Estimated Salary: For a Junior Tester (0–2 years) in the automotive/embedded space, the market range is approximately ₹5,50,000 – ₹9,50,000 per annum. Roles in Bangalore typically lean toward the higher end of this bracket compared to Coimbatore.
  • Benefits: Most companies in this sector offer robust medical insurance, performance-linked bonuses, and specialized “Product Training” certifications that are recognized globally in the automotive industry.
